Research Article
Research Articles report original, rigorous and significant research that advances knowledge in food innovation, functionality and sustainability. Submissions should present a clearly defined research question, appropriate and reproducible methodology, robust analysis and interpretation of results, and a clear contribution to the field. Research Articles should align with the aims and scope of the journal and demonstrate scientific relevance beyond a purely local or descriptive context.
Review Article
Review Articles provide authoritative, critical and evidence-based syntheses of established or emerging topics within the scope of the journal. Reviews should go beyond a descriptive summary of the literature by critically evaluating current knowledge, identifying important gaps, resolving or highlighting areas of debate, and outlining directions for future research and innovation. Systematic, scoping and other evidence-synthesis approaches are welcome where appropriate, provided that the methodology is clearly described and relevant reporting standards are followed.
Short Communication
Short Communications report concise, original and scientifically significant findings that merit rapid dissemination but do not require the length of a full Research Article. Submissions should present clearly defined objectives, appropriate and reproducible methods, robust results, and a focused discussion of their significance. Preliminary observations without adequate scientific validation are not suitable. Short Communications must fall within the scope of the journal and demonstrate a clear contribution to food innovation, functionality or sustainability.
Perspective
Perspective articles present informed, forward-looking viewpoints on emerging developments, challenges and opportunities relevant to food innovation, functionality and sustainability. They should provide a scholarly and evidence-based analysis of a clearly defined topic, critically engage with current knowledge, and offer original insights, conceptual advances or directions for future research, policy or practice. Perspectives should not simply summarise existing literature and should be supported by appropriate references.
