Corrections, Retractions & Expressions of Concern

Food Innovation, Function and Sustainability (FIFS) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, integrity and reliability of the scholarly record. Where concerns arise about published content, the journal will take appropriate action according to the nature and significance of the issue.

Corrections

A correction may be issued when an error or omission is identified in a published article that affects its accuracy, interpretation or scholarly record but does not invalidate the main findings of the work.

Corrections will be clearly identified, linked to the original article and made permanently accessible.

Retractions

An article may be retracted when there is reliable evidence that its findings or conclusions are seriously unreliable as a result of major error or research misconduct, or when serious ethical or publication-integrity concerns make continued reliance on the article inappropriate.

Retraction notices will clearly identify the affected article, state the reason for the retraction where appropriate, and remain permanently linked to the published record.

Expressions of Concern

An Expression of Concern may be issued when serious questions have been raised about a published article but the available information is insufficient to reach a definitive conclusion, or while an appropriate investigation is ongoing.

Post-Publication Updates

Minor errors that do not materially affect the scientific content or interpretation of an article may be addressed through an appropriate update where necessary.

Author and Institutional Cooperation

Authors are expected to cooperate with reasonable journal inquiries concerning published work. Where appropriate, FIFS may seek information from authors, institutions, funders or other relevant parties when investigating concerns.

Editorial Decisions

Decisions concerning corrections, retractions, Expressions of Concern or other post-publication actions will be based on the available evidence and the need to preserve an accurate and transparent scholarly record.
